Personal Project
Americana Oriental
American Southwest sceneries have been photographed many times by masters of art and photography.
Barely anything has changed in its sad-hued history and majestic beauty. Everything has been captured.
Ansel Adams, the god of black and white print, has perfected it all.
My project does not question who the best photographer is to capture the most American scenery but to point out that even in my immigrant Asian woman’s eyes, the American scenery looks as good as it did 100 years ago.
What is so different about it?
Nothing.
And also everything.
You might think I’m out of place in America based on my looks, but I, who can’t see myself without a mirror, see the same things as every other human being. The vast and quiet beauty of New Mexico and the famous old church in Taos look the same as Indigenous people, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Ansel Adams might have seen. Fortunately, God has given me a set of eyes to see outside, not my own face inside.
Nature does not discriminate against who sees it, even to my very “oriental” looking eyes.
Here are my views of America.
